Holidays at Kaltern - South Tirol

Kaltern is one of the most beautiful holiday destinations in South Tyrol. The Mediterranean and sunny culture landscape is characterised by palm trees and cypresses, vineyards, needle forests and pastures, and an alpine landscape waiting to be discovered during beautiful hikes.

Lake Kaltern is the warmest bathing lake in the Alps. Here you can enjoy water sports like sailing or surfing, rent rowing boats or paddling boats, or even just enjoy a swim.

Kaltern is a traditional wine growing area with more than 2500 hectares of vineyards. Small and big wineries offer high quality wines. Some are open to the public and offer wine tasting and guided tours of the winery.

The southern flair influences the cuisine in this area. In addition to traditional South Tyrolean cuisine you can enjoy light Italian specialities in the many pizzerias, restaurants and guesthouses. However, you can also choose to dine in one of the gourmet restaurants, inns or at alpine huts.

The past of Kaltern is influenced by Italian renaissance with its very own building style. About 500 years ago builders from Tuscany and Venice came here and developed this typical building style.

The reed area at the end of Lake Kaltern is a nature resort and provides the living space for more than 100 types of birds. A nature adventure path leads you through the biotope.

Those who love hiking can choose between short or long, easy or demanding hiking paths. The St. Anton sports area offers tennis, bowling, and soccer. The LIDO lake pool offers sun deck, sports, fun and kiddie's pool, rain room, Jacuzzi, and an underground grotto.

The area surrounding Lake Kaltern is an ideal starting point for cycling tours. Varied cycling paths lead to wonderful view points with comfortable huts along the way. You can rent a bicycle in Kaltern and participate at guided cycling tours twice a week.

In winter Lake Kaltern and the Raiffeisen Arena are ideal for ice-skating. The closest ski resorts are only about half an hour drive.

Highlights in Kaltern: Lake Games, Wine and pleasure, and sports events like Lake Kaltern semi marathon, International Triathlon or the hardest mountain-bike stage race in Europe – Bike Transalp.
